London, UK, 09 May 06 - ShoZu, provider of the market’s smartest solutions for turning cellphones into interactive media devices, announced today that it has been named to the Red Herring 100 Europe, a selection of the 100 private companies in Europe and Israel that play a leading role in innovation and technology. The honor follows a first-place Wireless Emerging Technologies Award at CTIA WIRELESS 2006 in Las Vegas last month and a GSM Association Award for the Best Mobile Messaging Service at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona in February.
The annual Red Herring 100 lists are part of the magazine’s tradition of identifying new and innovative technology companies and entrepreneurs. Companies like Google and eBay were spotted in their early days by Red Herring editors as ventures that would change the way people live and work. Nominated companies are judged on factors including business potential, execution of strategy, and dedication to research and development.
“Cellphones today are a communications lifeline, and the emergence of camera phones has vastly expanded the kinds of communication that are possible,” said ShoZu CEO Mark Bole. “This Red Herring award recognizes our early grasp of the changing nature of cellphone use, our five years of R&D, the benefits of our technology in terms of simplicity and open architecture, and our vision for enabling consumers to have complete media access from their mobile phones.”
In its current incarnation, ShoZu is a free-to-download application that allows users to share camera phone images more easily, quickly and at higher resolution than any other alternative including other uploader solutions, MMS, wireless email and phone-to-PC transfer. Images can be sent to photo sharing communities such as Buzznet, Flickr, Kodak EasyShare Gallery, Textamerica and Webshots; secondary destinations such as Snapfish and Blip.tv; personal blog sites such as Blogger, Typepad and Wordpress; and citizen-contributed photojournalism sites like CNN, the BBC and Scoopt. Most similar services support only a single photo sharing service.
New features to be added in the next few months will expand ShoZu into other arenas, enabling users to both share and consume a wide variety of media on their handsets.
