SAN FRANCISCO, Sep 29 06 - ShoZu Inc. and Webshots, a leading online photo sharing site and property of CNET Networks, today announced a joint promotion encouraging consumers to send images from Oktoberfest celebrations worldwide to the Webshots site using mobile phones equipped with ShoZu's one-click image uploading application. ShoZu's on-the-spot uploading capabilities are expected to maximize the number of photos in Webshots' special"Oktoberfun "collection by allowing images to be transmitted directly from the events.
The promotion matches the global nature of Oktoberfest with the global reach of both companies. Many of Webshots' members reside outside North America, and a large number of handsets that support ShoZu's application are very widely used in Europe by mainstream consumers.
" Oktoberfest is the largest public festival in the world, and it's a highly visual celebration that offers everything from decorated kegs and elaborate beer tents and to the unique local color of events in different cities and countries, " said Martin Green, Senior Vice President of Community for Webshots parent company CNET Networks. " By teaming with ShoZu to gather images from around the world, we will be able to paint a global portrait of the festivities, and our members will have a ringside seat at events that are thousands of miles away."
"People who attend events like Oktoberfest may not want to carry a camera, but they will almost certainly have their mobile phones with them. With ShoZu, they can 'shoot and send' effortlessly, " said Jen Grenz, Global Partner Marketing Director for ShoZu." This project with Webshots is an ideal way to showcase our capabilities, and an excellent strategy for Webshots to build a critical mass of Oktoberfest photos as well as encourage members to get into the habit of using their phones to share images."
ShoZu's image uploading service allows consumers to share images from their camera phones more quickly, easily, at a higher resolution and with more Web destinations than any alternative method. It eliminates the need to transfer the files to a PC, deal with complex commands and loss of image quality, or suspend phone calls or photo taking while an image is transferring. Descriptions and tags can be added before or after uploading, and only one upload is required even if the file is sent to multiple destinations.
