Mobile phone losses set to soar as party season hits a peak

Mobile users urged to back up precious moments

As the festive season kicks off and the social calendar becomes more hectic, we must remember to hold it together because the odds are against us when it comes to losing our mobile phones and all those precious contents within.

It's all too easy to lose one of our most precious possessions - research from mobile phone upload service ShoZu has found that one in three* people have lost** treasured data from their mobile phones whilst 4.5million phones were lost or damaged in the past year alone***. It's no longer just about losing contact numbers as more of us than ever (over 60%) are using our mobile phones as cameras to snap and store special moments. As Friday 19th December is set to be the busiest day for Christmas parties**** and careless behaviour there's still time to take action and back up!

A sentimental majority said the most devastating thing to lose if they lost their mobile would be pictures of family. Surprisingly, 18-24 year olds were the group who would be most upset to lose family pictures - 94% of youngsters said they hold pictures of family closer to their hearts than any other shots.

Although we are clearly worried about losing these special moments, we don't seem to be doing anything about it. Sixty one percent of those surveyed claim to not back up data stored on mobiles although surprisingly 35-44 year olds come up tops as the age group most likely to back up data (50%) stored on their mobile phones.

As December is the perfect time to capture special moments, and because of the fact that a third of us and our treasured pictures have been let down by a total of 16million***** mobile phones already, it's even more important than ever to get backing up photos we've saved onto our phones.

ShoZu, the multi-award winning, London based service lets you send all pictures you take to your (or anyone else's) email account or any range of over 50 online destinations, such as Flickr and Picasa, at the click of a button. And the service is free, meaning you can send any photos or videos you want, anywhere you want at anytime. Women especially should take note, as they are more likely than men to store special items (64% of all women). Saucy Londoners, Mancunians, Liverpudlians and Newcastle lads and lasses may also benefit - these are the cities that worry about losing more compromising pictures.

Mark Bole from ShoZu says "December is the month for getting snap happy with your phone but also the month in which we are likely to be more rushed. That means it's important to keep pictures safe and share them with the important people in your life - it really is as easy as pressing a button".

Alfie Dennen, technologist from Moblog agrees, adding "On average 10,000 mobile phones are being left in the back of black cabs every month****** - can you imagine how many private and personal pictures that equates to! Photos and videos can now be stored safely forever and it couldn't be more convenient".
