What are ZuCasts?

ZuCasts are part of a free ShoZu service that provides an amazing way to get music videos, great shows and fantastic photos - delivered automatically and invisibly to your phone.

You subscribe to the ZuCasts you want - favorite bands, funny videos, cool photos. Some ZuCasts have new stuff every week, some every day.

Tips for managing ZuCasts costs

  • Avoid downloading ZuCast updates when your phone is roaming on a different network. Many networks will charge significantly higher prices for "data roaming". ShoZu will automatically suspend ShoZu transfers when it detects you are roaming away from your home network. You can over-ride this by going into the ShoZu application on your phone and responding to the resume transfers prompt but we recommend you leave transfers suspended. ShoZu transfers are resumed automatically on return to your home network.
  • Adjust your monthly service plan with your network operator. A 3G or GPRS data "bundle" means you can pay a fixed cost per month for transferring up to an agreed level of data.
  • Set a reasonable download limit. ShoZu will temporarily stop downloading ZuCast updates if your limit is exceeded.
  • Set as few automatic download times as possible. Frequent update checks will result in more downloads.
  • Choose which ZuCasts to subscribe to carefully. "Data per week" values indicate how much data your phone would have downloaded over the past week if you were subscribed to that ZuCast.

Check for ZuCast updates automatically

ShoZu on your phone automatically connects to check for updates to your subscribed ZuCasts at least once per day. You may notice your phone making an Internet connection when this occurs. Note that ShoZu only automatically checks for updates if you are subscribed to one or more ZuCasts and all ZuCasts are not suspended.

It is possible for you to change the automatic download times. Please note however, that adding more automatic download times will increase your Internet usage. Unless you are on a flat-rate data plan, you will have additional data charges from your carrier / network operator.

To change automatic download times:

  1. On your phone open ShoZu.
  2. Select the Settings menu option.
  3. Open ZuCasts then Download times.
  4. Click a time to set / unset it as an automatic download time.

Limit ZuCast downloads

  1. On your phone open ShoZu.
  2. Select the Settings menu option.
  3. Open ZuCasts then Download limit.
  4. Enter a new download limit. (Set it to zero for no download limit.)

Note! If your download limit is too small, ZuCast downloads might often be stopped because this limit is reached.

What is "Data per week"?

"Data per week" is the amount of extra data your phone would have downloaded over the last week if you were subscribed to that ZuCast.

What is "Memory usage"?

"Memory usage" is the amount of phone memory a ZuCast would take up if you were subscribed to it.

Your phone stores ZuCast files temporarily, although it is possible to save ZuCast files permanently. When a ZuCast is updated older ZuCast files may be automatically deleted from your phone to make space. "Memory usage" values take this into account.

"Memory usage" values change regularly as the types of files contained in ZuCast updates (videos are larger than photos) and the number of ZuCast files stored on the phone vary greatly week to week.

To check how much "Memory usage" a ZuCast requires:

  1. Visit ShoZu.com, sign-in then visit the ZuCasts area.
  2. Click Available ZuCasts.
  3. Choose a content provider by clicking their View ZuCasts link.
  4. Click the Show memory usage link at the bottom right of the page.
  5. The "Memory usage" value for each ZuCast appears in the right-most column.

Note! It's important that your phone has enough free phone memory to store ZuCast files. If your phone runs out of memory, ShoZu can't download new ZuCast updates.
