I am having problems downloading or installing ShoZu on my phone

To download and install ShoZu you must sign-up for ShoZu using your computer's web browser. You'll need to first select your phone type and then enter your phone number so you can be sent a text message containing a link to download the ShoZu phone application. When you open the link in the text message, the browser on your phone is launched and the ShoZu phone application downloaded then installed.

What is your problem?

> I am having trouble activating ShoZu on my Samsung phone
> I am asked to select my phone on ShoZu.com, but I can’t find it.
> I have entered my phone number, but I haven’t received a text message containing a download link.
> I have received the text message containing a link to download ShoZu, but when I open that link nothing happens.
> My phone says ShoZu is un-trusted.
> I have installed ShoZu but am having trouble using or activating it.

Your phone doesn’t appear in the list of phones

  1. Try selecting your phone brand from the dropdown menu. This may make it easier to find your phone.
  2. Look at the photos of each phone carefully, if you don’t know it’s model number then you will have to find your phone by its appearance.
  3. If your phone is definitely not listed, it doesn’t currently support ShoZu. Tell us your phone type and we’ll try to support it as soon as we can.

If necessary, please contact us for assistance.

The SMS text message containing the download link didn't arrive

  1. Check your phone has sufficient network reception.
  2. Sometimes SMS text messages are delayed. Please wait for 10 minutes before retrying.
  3. If the SMS still doesn't arrive, open your phone browser and enter the address of the ShoZu download page directly. The address of the download page is displayed at the top the "Download" instructions page on ShoZu.com.

If necessary, please contact us for assistance.

The ShoZu download link didn't work

  1. Check your phone has sufficient network reception.
  2. If the ShoZu download page doesn't open, check to see if you can access any other web sites using your phone's browser. If you can’t access any web sites then you may be experiencing some GPRS/3G faults on your network or your phone's browser settings maybe incorrectly configured. Check the browser's connection settings and try again later.
  3. If you are able to browse other sites from your phone but cannot load the ShoZu download page, try opening another site and leaving your browser open before returning to the SMS text message and opening the link to download ShoZu.
  4. If none of those suggestions has worked, open your phone browser and enter the address of the ShoZu download page directly. The address of the download page is displayed at the top the "Download" instructions page on ShoZu.com.

If you are still having problems, please contact us for assistance.

Your phone says ShoZu is un-trusted.

People the world over trust ShoZu with their personal photos, videos and phone contacts. We have rigorously tested ShoZu on every phone we support to ensure your ShoZu experience is safe, secure and error free.

During ShoZu installation, some phones will warn you that ShoZu is un-trusted. If this occurs, agree to trust ShoZu.

I am having problems using or activating ShoZu on my phone

What is your problem?

> ShoZu asks me to select an Access Point (or APN).
> When I try to activate ShoZu on my phone, activation fails.
> My phone keeps asking me to allow ShoZu to access the Internet and read/write user data.
> I am constantly asked to enter an Access Point username and password.
> I am having trouble connecting to the network.
> I see an error in the ShoZu phone application.

ShoZu asks me to select an Access Point (or APN).

If you are asked to select an Access Point, select one with access to the Internet. These usually have the word "Internet" or "WAP" in their name.

What is an Access Point?

An Access Point (or APN for short) is a gateway that gives your phone access to GPRS/3G networks. Typically your network may provide three Access Points - one for WAP browsing, one to send MMS messages and one for the Internet services such as email. ShoZu will usually work through the Internet or email Access Point and the WAP access point.

If you are still having problems, please contact us for assistance.

When I try to activate ShoZu on my phone, activation fails.

Activation can fail for a number of reasons:

  1. You may have entered your ShoZu username and password incorrectly. If this is the case, try activating again. Enter your ShoZu username and password carefully and remember to use the correct upper and lowercase letters.

A bug with Nokia 6230i phones causes the writing language to always default to Turkish. If you use ShoZu on this phone, be careful when entering the letters "g" and "i" in your ShoZu username and password as they are similar to the Turkish characters "ğ" and "ı".
  2. ShoZu may not have been able to connect to the network. (I am having trouble connecting to the network.)

If you are still having problems, please contact us for assistance.

My phone keeps asking me to allow ShoZu to access the Internet and read/write user data

ShoZu needs to access the Internet and read and write data on your phone so it can display your videos and photos and upload them to your Share-It destinations.

You phone may repeatedly ask you to allow ShoZu to access the Internet and read and write data until you give ShoZu permanent permission.

To give ShoZu permission to display your images and access the Internet:

  1. To allow ShoZu to see your files and avoid being constantly prompted for permissions:
  2. Exit ShoZu.
  3. Find ShoZu in the main phone menu and click More or Options. A list of options will appear.
  4. Select Permissions. A list of permission types will appear.
  5. Select Internet access then select Never ask.
  6. Select Read user data then select Never ask.
  7. Select Write user data then select Never ask.
  8. You're done. Press the Back button to return to the list of applications.

If you get stuck at any stage, just reopen ShoZu for info on your next step.

To allow ShoZu to see your photos and videos and avoid being constantly prompted for access:

  1. Exit ShoZu.
  2. Find ShoZu in the main phone menu and click Options. A list of options will appear.
  3. Select Application access. A list of permission types will appear.
  4. Select Phone access > Communication > Network access . Set it to Always allowed.
  5. Select Application access again and then again and then select Phone access > Read user data. Set it to Always allowed.
  6. Select Application access again and then Phone access > Add and edit data. Set it to Always allowed.
  7. You're done. Press Back to return to the list of applications.

If you are still having problems, please contact us for assistance.

I am constantly asked to enter an Access Point username and password

This can be avoided by configuring a permanent username and password for the Access point ShoZu uses.

Note! You will need the "username" and "password" settings your mobile provider uses for web/email access. If you don't know what settings to use, you can use the Nokia Phone Configurator  (select the 'Internet' service), or visit one of these 3rd party web sites (they open in a new window) for a list of settings for most carriers / network operators:

Once you have found the correct settings write them down, you'll need to enter them into your phone later. If no username and password is given, you will need to use "username" as the username and "password" as the password.

  • Open Settings, Configuration then Personal Configuration Settings.
  • Select the Internet Access point ShoZu uses.
  • Open Access point settings then Bearer settings.
  • Enter the required User name and Password.

If you are still having problems, please contact us for assistance.

I am having trouble connecting to the network

ShoZu transfers this information via one of your carrier / network operator's Internet Access Points. An Access Point, or APN for short, is like a gateway between your phone and the Internet. On some phones ShoZu can also transfer information via local WiFi wireless networks.

If ShoZu is having trouble connecting to the network:

  1. You phone might not be receiving a signal. Check that your phone is in network coverage.
  2. Your phone has reception but can't make a data connection. The data network may be busy or another application on your phone may be using the connection. Wait for your phone to retry.
  3. Your phone is not configured to access the Internet. Configure your phone for Internet access.

Configure your phone for Internet access.

If your phone has not had it's Internet settings fully confirgured by your network operator, then you will have to set them up manually. You can request the basic settings from your operator or from your phone manufacturer's web site. For Sony Ericsson phones visit the Sony Ericsson Phone Setup tool . For Nokia phones, visit Nokia Phone Configurator .

This applies to ShoZu Java edition for Sony Ericsson phones only.

To manually configure your phone for Internet access you will need the "access point name" (APN), "username" and "password" settings your mobile provider uses for web/email or WAP access. If you don't know what settings to use, visit one of these 3rd party web sites (they open in a new window) for a list of settings for most carriers / network operators:

Once you have found the correct settings write them down, you'll need to enter them into your phone later. If you couldn’t find your carrier / network operator, call your carrier / network operator directly and ask for these settings.

Check if your phone is already configured for Internet access:

  1. From the phone's main menu select Settings.
  2. Open the Connectivity tab and select Settings for Java. A list of Internet profiles will appear.
  3. If there is an existing Internet profile matching the Access Point details you wrote down earlier, Select it.

If there are no suitable Internet profiles, you'll need to add a new one:

  1. Staying within Internet Profiles, highlight the New profile item at the top of the list then press Add.
  2. With Name: selected, press Add.
  3. Enter a suitable name and press OK.
  4. Highlight Connect using: and press Select.
  5. A list of data accounts will appear. highlight the New account item at the top of the list then press Add.
  6. Select GPRS data.
  7. Enter a suitable name and press Continue.
  8. Edit APN: and enter your mobile provider's "access point name" (APN) and press OK. (See above for how to find this information.)
  9. If the Access Point requires a username, edit Username: and enter the GPRS username then press OK.
  10. If the Access Point requires a password, edit Password: and enter the GPRS password then press OK.
  11. Press Save. The new data account will be saved and the list of data accounts will reappear.
  12. Highlight the new data account and press Select. You will return to the new profile.
  13. Press Save. The new profile will be saved and the list of Internet profiles will reappear.
  14. Highlight the new profile and press Select.

This applies to ShoZu Java edition for Nokia S40 phones only.

You will need to complete configuring your phone for Internet access manually:

Note!

  10. Select Password, enter the GPRS password then press OK. (If your mobile provider doesn't require a password, enter "password" for the password. Without this you will be constantly asked to enter a username and password later.)
  11. Press Back 3 times.
  12. Highlight the new account and press Options > Activate.
  13. Finally, restart your phone, to make sure the settings take effect.

ShoZu should now be able to connect to the network.

If you are still having problems, please contact us for assistance.

Try checking your APN settings by going to Options>Advanced Options>TCP.

For you T-Mobile users, try entering one of these common APN settings below.

  • wap.voicestream.com
  • internet2.voicestream.com
  • internet3.voicestream.com

If you’re on AT&T, contact AT&T customer service to get the right APN setting for your handset.

On Verizon or Sprint? You don’t have to worry about APN settings.

If you’re using a carrier we haven’t mentioned, you may find their access point settings on one of the following pages:

http://www.unlocks.co.uk/gprs_settings.php
http://www.taniwha.org.uk/gprs.html

After setting your APN, try downloading or starting ShoZu again.

Known Issues

The following issues have been highlighted with the ShoZu service. Please contact us to report any other problems you have.

Monthly upload limit

Some online sharing sites have a monthly upload limit. Photos uploaded after your online sharing site has reached its monthly upload limit will have an "Uploaded to ShoZu " icon next to them, but will not appear in your online sharing site until the following month.

Progressive JPEG images

Saving certain types of images (progressive JPEGs) to your online sharing site may result in large amounts of memory to be used by the phone, causing "Memory full" warnings to appear. This format of image is typically only used for images downloaded from the Internet. It is not recommended to download this type of image to your phone and then upload it again using ShoZu.

Upload seems slow

High resolution megapixel photos may take several minutes to upload over GPRS.

Phone restarts ("white screens") on Java version of ShoZu (e.g. Sony Ericsson k750, d750)

Users have reported that some Sony Ericsson phones may sometimes crash when opening Java applications. This instability may also affect the ShoZu application, requiring you to close then reopen the application.

Rotating an image

Some sharing sites do not support rotating an image after it has been uploaded. It is recommended to rotate images before uploading them to your sharing site.
